Who we are

This website is run by The Smart App (“we”). You can reach us at [email protected].

What we collect

When you use the contact form or email us, we keep what you send: your name, company, email address, phone number, how many technicians you have and your message.

We don’t use advertising trackers on these pages, and we don’t build a profile of you. Analytics cookies are only set if you say yes to them: see Cookies below.

We count visits on our own server, so we know how many people look at each page and which website (a search engine, say) sent them. Your internet address and the type of browser you use are used only to tell visits apart for that day, in a scrambled form that is never saved and is forgotten at the end of each day. We keep only the totals, for up to 13 months. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the website is used.

If your browser asks websites not to track you (Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track), your visit isn’t counted at all.

Cookies

These pages set no cookies unless you say yes when we ask about analytics cookies. If you do, Google Analytics sets two cookies on this website (named _ga and _ga_ followed by a code) so that it can tell visits apart and show us totals: how many people came, which pages they read, roughly where they were (a country or city, worked out from your internet address, which Google Analytics doesn’t store), the kind of device and browser, and the website or search that brought them here. The cookies last 13 months from your last visit. Google’s advertising features are switched off, so none of this is used to show you adverts. Google keeps the detailed records for up to 14 months and may handle them in the United States. Our lawful basis is your consent.

Once we’ve asked, you can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; saying no removes the cookies. Your answer is remembered in your browser, so you aren’t asked on every page. If your browser asks websites not to track you, you aren’t asked and Google Analytics never runs.

The office website, on your company’s own address, doesn’t use these analytics cookies: see “If you use The Smart App at work” below.

Why we use it

Only to reply to you and, if you ask, to arrange a demo or a free trial. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us. We never sell your details or pass them on for marketing.

Who else is involved

  • Cloudflare carries this website’s traffic and forwards email sent to [email protected] to our inbox.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on these pages, so Google sees your internet address when the page loads.
  • Google Analytics counts visits for us, only if you say yes to analytics cookies.
  • Our email provider holds the emails you send us, and delivers the copy of each contact form message our server emails to us.

Where it’s kept, and for how long

Contact form messages are stored on our own server in the United Kingdom, and a copy is emailed to us. We delete them after two years, or sooner if you ask. Messages that look like advertising are deleted after 30 days, and aren’t emailed to us.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object to us using it. Email [email protected] and we’ll reply within a month.

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

If you use The Smart App at work

Your company decides what’s kept about its jobs and customers in The Smart App, and for how long. Questions about that are best put to your employer first. The office website sets a cookie when you log in, only to keep you logged in. If you use 2-step sign-in, it sets one more for the few minutes while you type your code and, if you ask it to remember a computer, one that lets that computer skip the code for a while.

If a repair company has been in touch about your car

Repair companies use The Smart App to book your repair, email you about it, show you your repair page and, if you ask, give you a price. The company decides what’s kept about you and for how long, so questions about it are best put to them first: their details are on every email and page they send you.
